Christmas in July.

A friend let me go through some of her old baby clothes, and these Christmas pajamas were in the bin complete with Santa Claus feet. They were for 9-12 months, so I kept them since Devin will be about 10 months at Christmas. Turns out she fits in the now at 5 months, so Christmas in July it is!

4th of July Weekend!

This weekend was the best. No doubt about it!
In between getting in a good amount of hours at work, I spent a ton of time with family, some of which were in from out of town. After driving home from my grandparents Friday night with the fresh smell of a campfire on us, Vince said, "Hey, I had a lot of fun!" And I responded with, "Did I really just hear you say that after 7 hours spent with my family?" And he said, "SEVEN HOURS?!" Time flies by when you have good company. (This is not to imply my family is not fun, they totally are the best.)
My grandma felt compelled to give Devin a bath after I admitted I don't bathe her very often.

Saturday morning we went shooting where I killed it, seriously. I couldn't believe it. We did a competition where we had to hit 10 pieces of 4 inch 2x4s that were set up in a line, and you had two shots per wood. For a better time you had to kind of run between shots (the wood was far enough away to not stand in one spot) and I got the exact same time as my grandpa, and he got one more shot than me. Now I need to practice and beat him! I think this is beginners luck though since I haven't shot since I was like 12.
Her squished cheeks were too cute, I couldn't stop laughing.

After that, my dad, uncle, Vince and I went for a mountain bike ride while Devin napped with the rest of the fambam. Riding with friends is fun, but family is even better!
Vince is getting ready for the Bike Olympics this evening, Devin is sleeping naked with the fan directed on her because it's been so hot, and I'm ready for a nap myself with Roxi! It's weird to be in a quiet house after being around family and noises for hours.
Annnnnd then she was over it.

Added after I wrote the above: We ended up going to the Bike Olympics for a bit and hung out with one of our favorite ladies!

Happenings

|| On New Year's Eve my suspicions were confirmed: I married an old man. I realized this when he wanted to go somewhere else because the bar was packed, when in reality it was pretty empty. When we got home, I was so annoyed with him. I wanted the night to be legendary...epic...the best night ever before we settle down and have babies! But it was nothing of the sorts and I was bummed about it at first. Then I realized that epic and legendary weren't part of my life anymore, at least not in the lets go out to dance and party all night kind of way. That's never been my style and honestly it's not something I've ever really enjoyed or have done since high school. Maybe I told myself that it is bcause that's what other people my age do or my friends do, but that's not me. I don't get fancy and wear a lot of makeup(though I do dress nice and look presentable), I don't like heels, and I sure as hell would never wear a super short dress when its 10 degrees outside so someone would think I'm sexy. Not even for my husband. So not worth in my opinion because I look just as sexy warm! By the time morning rolled around and I saw Vince when he returned from skiing, I was no longer annoyed with him. We didnt have a legendary night where we were up until dawn, but we were with each other. Next year I can assure you we will be at home, more than likely sleeping. All in all, though, it was a pretty good night filled with 1 1/2 gin and tonics, seeing old friends, and making fun of my husband.

|| Something I realized was that I just don't like drinking. While I love the taste of some drinks, I don't like being buzzed, let alone drunk, so it's pointless to spend $4+ on an alcoholic drink. So I'm just not going to drink anymore! I very rarely drink as it is, and when I do I get down maybe half a glass before I pass it off to Vince, so it's not much of a change.

|| Vince got me a cute jacket for Christmas! So much better than my first Christmas gift. I want it to be warmer so I can wear it. It's not quite warm enough when it's below freezing outside. Thanks, but I'll stick with my Patagonia for now!

|| School starts in less than two weeks and I'm not ready. My house still isn't clean, I haven't ordered my books, and I like being able to sleep in until 9 instead of being in class at 8. I've still got time to get in school-mode, though, so I'm sure I'll be ready in time.

|| Taxes! I'm hoping we get a good chunk of money back this year.

|| My niece turns two today. WHAT. It seems like she was just born and now she's walking and talking and terrorizing everyone around her.

|| I start my lab tech job on Wednesday! My boss says she is super excited for me to work for her, so that's a good thing.

|| Entertaining the idea of being a naturopathic doctor and going to this school specifically. Thoughts?

Happenings

First off: I know I wrote a dramatic post about destroying my thyroid with radiation, but Vince and I have nixed that idea. After further research, we decided we're not comfortable with it and it can take years to balance out thyroid levels after, which means years before a baby! No thanks. A lot of people also don't ever feel 'normal' again after RAI, and I'm usually one of those people with the weird symptoms, so I'd rather not risk it. I'm not sure what's going on baby-wise, but we know we're not doing RAI so a healthy baby will come sooner rather than later. Thanks to everyone for your kind comments and emails! Much appreciated. ♥

Now that that's out of the way, here are some happenings lately.

|| I've made so many fancy quesadillas recently it's been wonderful.

I use a teensy amount of cheese (I don't actually like cheese since the last time I had the flu) to hold everything together and a bunch of veggies. One of my favorites has red onion, spinach, green onion, green chilies (we usually get a case of them from the farmers market when they do their yearly chili roast and freeze them) and mushrooms on corn tortillas. SO GOOD.

|| Speaking of green onions, I'm now growing some in my window!

They're only like 75 cents a bunch, but we use them so often (over 1 bunch a week) that it's nice to always have them around. Here's how I did it: buy a bunch from the store(I started with organic...might as well!), and use all of it except the bottom inch or two(the white parts). Put those bottoms in some water, with the water coming halfway up the bottom. Let sit for a week or so until roots start to form. Change the water on the 3rd day or so if it gets cloudy. Once roots have started, plant it in some soil. It grows about a foot a week! It's nuts. Just use scissors to cut off what you need. I potted mine in a cute little pencil holder that the wonderful Sara sent me. I poked holes in the bottom with a hammer and nails and use a teacup lid to catch the water. They grow best next to a plastic horse and lizard, fyi.

|| My husband was the cutest baby. I'm now convince we'll have the cutest kids ever.

|| Fall is here, and with it, Halloween decorations. I didn't want to mess with the fake webs and whatnot, but I got a few things from the dollar store and thrift store!

|| Oh, these pants happened. Aren't they lovely?
|| The last little harvest of the season from the garden.
Some of the mint I made into a tincture and the rest I dried for mint tea throughout the winter.
|| I saw one of my top five favorite bands ever, Rise Against.
And dear god, how I cried. For the past few years, whenever I listen to them I always think, "I'd kill to see them live!" Then for the past few months, while I've been waiting for the show itself, I'd still think that then catch myself and say OH MY GOD I'M GOING TO SEE THEM LIVE AND I DIDN'T HAVE TO KILL ANYONE! It was amazing you guys, just amazing. Oh and they're on tour for the Florence Project. Go check it out, they're doing some great stuff!
