New Things

I got a tea pot with some blooming tea for Christmas and I love it, as does Vince.

I scored majorly at the thrift store and got some cute new boots, snow boots, and a sweater. All $5 each.

I also got a new glass dish that will be the perfect size for the banana custard that I make a million times a month.

Because of all my new things, I've been getting rid of a lot of other things. My old snow boots (which are really rain boots like my new snow boots but work better than any snow boot I've ever owned) have a huge whole in them so I'm finally able to toss them, I had plenty of clothes that I never wore that I happily gave away(over 40 items!), and I still have to decide which two sweaters I'm going to get rid of to make room for my new one. Most of my sweaters are girly ones that are too small for my torso and arms, so I'm happy to give those away as well.

I've been becoming more of a minimalist over time, especially after reading inspiring blogs like Becoming Minimalist, and I'm hoping to get rid of more and more stuff. My house always feels clean, even when it's not, because there's not so much stuff everywhere!

Anything new and exciting lately? Or have you been getting rid of anything?

Saturday Love: Jerome Edition

So a week ago, last Saturday, my friend Veronica and I took a little day trip down to Jerome, AZ! It's a little over an hour away, but Veronica and I talked the whole way, so time flew by!

We first went to the Jerome State Historic Park. It's at the top of a hill, and you look out over the vast area of nothingness. You could see the Peaks in the background though!

It cost $5 to get in, and was a fun little museum. I guess it used to be a guy named Douglas' house and it showcased some of the stuff that he owned, as well as other mining stuff, since Jerome is a mining town.

When we first walked in, we saw one of those machines that squashes a penny.

So for $1.02, we got ourselves 2 flattened pennies!

Then, we came upon this beautiful tea set. Can I pretty please own this?

We saw other random things throughout the house...

{{Top left to bottom right: a shelf that was in a little room, lights from the train tracks, an old soda machine {it was huge!} and a gargoyle that reminds me of the tattoo on Vince's leg}}

{One of the MANY signs that were in the hallways. What does it even mean?!}

{This was another one that was a little weird, because people may have died on that stretcher. The old crutches looked so uncomfortable!}

{There was a dark room that had lots of rocks in it that naturally glowed.}

{The bathroom was HUGE and BEAUTIFUL and BRIGHT. I wish I could have a bathroom like that, it was so darling. And the entire wall was just storage.}

{Cute little pathway and old mining carts.}

{I LOVE old buildings.}

There was a lot of other things throughout the museum, but you should just go check it out yourself!

After the museum, we drove up to the little downtown area, which is just on a couple big hills. We immediately went and ate at a restaurant called Grapes. I couldn't find a page that had their menu online, but it had things like soups, sandwiches, amazing appetizers and salads.

{EDIT: My awesome friend Ami found the link!! http://grapesjerome.com/menuscroll.html }

I called before we went and the lady who answered happened to be gluten free and said I could eat almost anything on the menu! When we got to the restaurant, she also happened to be our waitress! I was excited. There were SO many things I could eat, like almost 50 things. I've never ever had so many options, even at a dedicated gluten free place. All the sauces, even the FRIED mozzarella sticks were safe to eat! They didn't fry anything else in that oil except rice stuff. I was stoked.

I'm going to warn you now, if you ever go there, you will think about the foods for WEEKS.

{Excited for food!}

Veronica and I shared a portobella mushroom and I have talked to Vince about it everyday since then. I want him to try it so bad, I know he'd love it!

{I order a Rueben without bread, and Ver got a Swiss Melt.}

Did I enjoy my meal? Here's your answer:

{These are a couple of the stores we went to.}

The House of Joy was such a FUN store. It's an old brothel and has all sorts of pin-up memorabilia, Russia stuff, and tons of vintage trinkets. I think Melissa Misfortune would die in that store!

Veronica and I loved the Magpie simply because there's a blackbird on the sign! There was a jacket in that store that I would love to own someday.

Fool on the Hill was such an awesome shop, possibly my favorite clothing store. Everything was funky and they sold fabric there too. I bought a yard of great fabric for $3 that I can't wait to use.
Veronica got some fudge that had marshmallows in it from Copper Country Fudge. They couldn't guarantee that it would be gluten free so I didn't eat any, but it looked so freaking good!

We also went to a few of the galleries and a place that had the most amazing ceramic arts. I wanted so much of that stuff! I was nervous I was going to break something though.

All in all, it was a good day.

I NEED this.

I find myself feeling like I 'need' things more often, even though I know I don't 'need' like 99% of the stuff I have in my house.

I am definitely feeling like I NEED  to buy this, NOW. It is so incredibly beautiful. LOOK AT THE HANDLE; oh my goodness, my heart is truly aching for it.

{image via it's Etsy shop ModishVintage}

I can't wait until I get this book shelf so I can display some of the amazing tea pots that I have been accumulating.

For example, this one, that my future mother in law and aunt sent me for Christmas:

If I would have seen this one before I owned it, I would have felt like I 'needed' it to. It's beautiful and so darling!

I wonder if when I have a lot of money someday {because I will, ya know} if I will still appreciate things like I do now. If $69 was chump change to me, would I still ache after it and want it, because I could simply buy it? I think I'll be able to keep myself in check still, even when I'm not worried about saving every extra penny. Until then, I will just sit on my couch and admire the beauty.

You fell ASLEEP??!!

So what happens when you have
a sleeping man with 2 dogs in a muddy backyard
and he falls asleep and leaves the back door open?

Yep, you guessed it, MUDDY FLOORS:

We have carpet in all the rooms, and it is trashed now as well. Once the weather gets cold again and Izobel finally learns to pee outside and NOT in the hallway, I'm going to borrow my grandmas RugDoctor {she owns rental houses and decided to buy one instead of always renting one} and clean the carpet up.

On a happier note, look at this cute spoon rest that Veronica gave me:

It goes perfectly in my kitchen considering I have teapots everywhere.
I LOVE it!

Exciting few days...

These past few days have been crazy! The most exciting thing that has happened is...

...my niece Alyla was born!!

My sister Suzanne gave birth to her at 5:02am on January 4, 2011.

I'm writing a post about it, but it's super long and detailed, so it's taking me a while. It will be up soon, though!

I also found 2 great things from Bookmans:
...a beautiful yellow teapot...

...and an carved wooden owl...

Even though Bookmans s a used bookstore, they have random little knick-nacka at the ends of bookshelves. I've never actually bought a book there, just random things!

I was excited to add this teapot to my collection, as I love yellow and also I love the 'squareness' to it that my others don't have.

When I bought the owl dish, it was pretty dirty and grimy and I wasn't sure if I was going to be able to get it clean, but alas, I did! I'm going to use it to store all my pins on my sewing table. I have this adorable pin cushion/tape measure, but when I'm sewing I don't have the time to push pins into it.

Speaking of my craft table, I finally built it! Here's the fabric that I used for the top...

I'm going to write a post soon about how I made it for cheap.
♥ ♥ ♥

I might let Roxi taking over blogging for a while, though, she can't seem to stay away from the computer!

Sweet Finds

Last weekend Vince and I went around to a few thrift stores in town. We originally went to drop off a few boxes of stuff to the Salvation Army and then look at a table in front of another thrift store I had driven by.

After dropping off the boxes, we went to a family owned thrift store to look at the table and it was $199! At a THIFT store. I mean, come on. That's ridiculous. I immediately got annoyed and just wanted to go home. {Can you tell that I'm a really fun person to be around?} Vince wanted to 'waste time' though, and look around the store inside. As we were walking through, I noticed a lot of cute things I wanted to buy like a tea cup, a few vases; just random knick knacks. Every time I looked at the price, though, my jaw dropped. $40 for one rusty old {but not antique}
BAR STOOL that was missing 2 of the anti-scratch bottoms? $50 for a tea pot that also wasn't antique and could get from Target for $10? I wanted to get out of there quickly because that was ridiculous. I completely understand raising prices slightly in a rough economy because every has bills to pay, but $160 for a lamp? OUTRAGEOUS.

As we were walking out, the owner started talking to us and said if we had a price to offer on anything, her would consider it. I felt so guilty telling him there wasn't really anything we needed. He's a great guy {he makes popcorn in an old machine for the neighbor kids} and was just trying to make some money! But alas, we didn't have that kind of money to spend.

Once we left that place {which I don't want to name}, we went to Goodwill. That is where we I scored. I found a new pair of jeans that fit fabulously, and there is no way I can shrink them because they've already been washed! That's why I love second-hand jeans because I never remember to take my jeans out of the dryer. In addition to the pants, I got a cute shirt, some bowls, and a teapot.

When we moved into the new place, I used two of our pretty bowls as food/water dishes for Roxanne and then realized that left us humans with only two bowls. AKA: Washing the bowls over and over every time we use them.

The new ones are nice and large and were only a buck each...

Oh, and that deliciousness inside the bowl? That would be sautéed mushrooms with garlic.

The tea pot, however, is what I was most excited about. I collect tea pots and this one was only $2.99! It's the perfect size and just so simple. Now I have 6 teapots in my collection {if you could call it that}.

For a lot of my birthday's and Christmas, my mom would always buy me little tea sets. They were cheap dollar store ones the majority of the time, but they were cute and I always looked forward to getting them. I just wish I had kept some of them.

Now I get to sit here and drink tea from my lovely teapot, eat some ice cream from my vibrant bowl, and read the best young adult book I have read in a long time, while Vince watches The Karate Kid. ♥

Oh, and did anyone in F-Town catch the sunset the other night? With all the prescribed burns going on, the smoke makes them stunning.
