The Doom That Looms

Why is there always that nagging feeling that shit's about to blow up when everything is going perfectly? Things are going insanely smoothly in my life, but there's still that gross feeling always hovering. Does anyone else feel that way when things are right?

I mean, my life isn't perfect per se, but it's exactly what I want it to be. I still bicker with my husband, I still have bills to pay, and my dishes still don't clean themselves. But my life is moving forward in so many new and exciting ways that I never thought would happen but always wanted to happen and now it's like BOOM. Stuff is happening lady! You asked for it and your wish was granted!

Thursday was my last full-time day at work.
I start school full-time on Tuesday.
I have 16 days off work before I start part-time.
I got a new apartment sized fridge which means we can fit a table in our kitchen.
I have started exercising and am actually sticking with my schedule.
I have an amazing family and great friends surrounding me.
I am eating healthier and feeling good.
I am happy.

These are all things I'm energized about so why do I think something bad will happen? I have earned all of what I have, so maybe I'm just nervous about all the new changes and this is the way it's manifesting itself.

At the same time, when I look at my past I'm usually correct in thinking that something is going to happen that I don't want to happen. That's what makes life, well, life. Things happen. I've always been able to accept those unexpected changes, albeit not always gracefully, and none of them have ruined me.

I guess I need to just embrace what I have now and stop trying to worry about what might happen. It's much easier said then done, but at least if I have that goal on my mind, I can actively try to push the bad thoughts away.

Does anybody else feel like this at times? How do you deal with it?
I don't want to leave this post feeling so forlorn, so here's a picture of me smiling!

  1. I know this feeling *so* well.  It doesn't seem to matter how well things are going, there is always that nagging feeling that something, somewhere, sometime is going to go wrong...I think it's just a case of preparing for the worst (which isn't necessarily a bad thing!) but we have to remember to embrace the good times and let them roll!  I'm so glad things are going well for you lady, you deserve good times and lots of smiles (^_^)

  2. This happens to me ALL the time. Life can't always go my way, so when good things start to happen, that must mean that something is probably coming around the corner to bite me in the butt, because that's just the way life is right? But that doesn't mean things always happen that way. Life is not so predictable, and I've found that spending time worrying about what might come up next, doesn't do anything for me, except maybe make me enjoy my good times a little less. We never know what's going to happen, so really, we should just be happy with the good things that are going on in the present(which is always about 30 times easier said than done) and roll with the punches as they come. Don't worry, be happy :)

  3. First of all, gorgeous picture. =]
I feel like that sometimes and it usually is right before a big change, often a happy one! I think it's normal to be slightly nervous about things changing and this is the way you manifest it.
Sometimes I jog in place to get those endorphins pumping, but a lot of the times I find writing all of the positive consequences of my upcoming change helps too.

  5. Like they say "life is what happens when you're busy making plans"--think there is even a song like that! All you can do is roll with the flow, fight it and you just end up tired! Things happen for a reason-sometimes good, sometimes bad. Keep making your plans and fulfilling them. As long as you are happy, everything will fall into place. ♥U

  7. Thank you!

Running/jogging is a good idea, or maybe lifting weights when it's too cold out! I've been writing a lot more since I've been 'nervous' so I'm a lot like you!
