What's your iPod sound like?

Here's some pictures of flowers and the sky tonight. As I type this, it is POURING outside!

So. I decided to listen to the first 10 songs that came up when I turned my iPod on shuffle and write about what comes to my mind. Here are the results...

Listening to Moby reminds me of working at the Black Bean, so any time I listen to Moby, I want to do things I used to do at the Black Bean, like wash dishes, sweep the floor, have a dance off, etc., so it's great music to listen to when I need to clean...or have a dance party!

So I have had to come to terms with listening to Faith No More because Vince loves them. When I first listened to some of their albums, I thought they were just awful and can never like them. But over time, some songs have grown on me, and certain ones, like Take This Bottle hit pretty close to home.

Sooo....Streetlight Manifesto is one of my very top favorite bands. They are AMAZING AMAZING AMAZING and just so fun. They are great to dance to, sing at the top of your lung and get totally motivated to do anything you want in the world. There are really fun songs and there are songs that tug at your heartstrings. If you like ska music and need a horn fix, this band is perfect for you!

4) Once Upon a December from the Anastasia soundtrack
Anastasia is my favorite Disney movie. I don't know what was so great about it, but I love it. My favorite thing to do was so sing along. I mean, who doesn't like to sing?! And for years I sang this song daily, and even nowadays, I frequently sing this song. =] It's just soo dramatic. Haha.

So about a year ago, I was watching the PBS channel and on certain nights they have a segment that plays 'live' shows of a band. I was like, "Dude, Vince, you've gotten to listen to this! She's so....interesting. I can't even explain it, but I'm pretty sure I like her!" And then he explained that it was Ani DiFranco. And then further explained that she was a heavy drug user and she even snorted drugs during shows. Having Vince google videos of her proved it even further. Wow. I was bummed. Regardless, she's great, just every time I hear her, my heart sags a little knowing what she does.

Umm ya. I think Katy Perry is a genius. Her new album, California Gurls, is still growing on me, but her old album, One of the Boys, is fantastic. For a while I listened to her album like 7 times a day. I would push play and let it keep repeating! She's just fun and I like hearing what she has to say.

Another one of my favorites. Every time I hear Flogging Molly my heart does a double beat. Their sound is just so entrancing. Maybe it's the sexy accents, but I love listening to their albums from start to finish. All the songs blend smoothly together as well, which is a plus.

So this is yet another band that is in my top favorites, as well as the best show I ever went to. It was 2 years ago for Vinces birthday and it was...unexplainable. It was in Phoenix at some bar/venue type thing that had NO AIR CONDITIONING. It was June. The middle of summer. It was hotter inside the building then it was outside, which is saying a lot because it was PHOENIX. And they did not allow re-admittance so we couldn't go outside for 'fresh' Phoenix air. So why would this be the best show I ever went to? Because the Mad Caddies are a pretty popular band, and a lot of people were crammed together in a smallish building. Again. Why was this the best show ever? Because I have never been so intimate with so many strangers and the good energy was through the roof. Everyone was SO hot so many of us took off shirts, poured water on each other, etc to keep cool and every single person, except one guy, was having such a good time!

When I listen to this band, it reminds me of a lovely man named Benjamin. I became friends with him while working with him at black Bean and Vince was really good friends with him for a while. Two years ago for spring break, Annie, Lori (Annie's sister), Ben and I took a road trip to Laguna Beach (we REALLY anted to see LC's house! haha. NOT) and it was a crazy trip. The last night of the trip, we went to an RX Bandits show in LA. Unfortunaley, we had to be to Flagstaff the next morning by 8am so that Lori and Annie could open up Black Bean, meaning we had to leave LA by 11:30pm to make it home on time. Ben and I were the lucky ones who were going to stay up and drive through the night. Did I mention this was after an entire week of laying on the beach, drinking ALL DAY LONG, going on 3am walks around Laguna with Ben, and then a punk show? The only way we could stay awake was by drinking energy drinks and listening to loud music that we could sing to. This was one of the few CD's of Ben's that I could sing to, so we listened to this CD many many times on the 8 1/2 hour drive. Even though we overplayed it, it's a still a rad and funky band that I would listen to any day of the week.

Do I need an explanation on my thoughts about Pink Floyd? Just that I survived freshman year thanks to Pink Floyd, and this song in particular!

Sometimes when I listen to shuffle, the playlist is perfect. I'll love every single song and every time a song starts, I think, "Oh my goodness, I so needed this song right now!" Other times, that doesn't happen and I get pissed off. Luckily this time I loved all the songs!

So what music comes up when you turn your iPod/iTunes on shuffle?

  2. Great list - I love Ani DiFranco. I've seen her in Melbourne (where I'm from) and she wasn't doing drugs, she was TOTALLY AWESOME. You should check out some more of her stuff, she is a very powerful, talented artist. And man, can she play a guitar.
And Katy Perry, I think she's just gorgeous, reminds me of a 50s pin up girl.
Visiting from Lady Estrogen's linky. :)
